Dorothy Dandridge

Dorothy Dandridge was an American actress and singer. She was the first African American woman to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress, for her role in the 1954 film “Carmen Jones”. Dandridge had a long and successful career in the entertainment industry, appearing in numerous films, television shows, and stage productions. She was also a talented singer, performing with jazz greats such as Duke Ellington and Count Basie. Despite facing challenges and obstacles due to her race, Dandridge remained a trailblazer for African American women in the entertainment industry and is remembered for her inspiring performances and her contributions to the industry.
