Alec Guinness was a British actor. He was born on April 2, 1914, and died on August 5, 2000. He was a prolific and highly regarded performer, known for his versatility and range. He is perhaps best remembered for his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the original “Star Wars” trilogy (1977-1983), but he had a long and illustrious career in film, television, and theater, appearing in over 80 films. Some of his other notable film roles include “Kind Hearts and Coronets” (1949), “The Bridge on the River Kwai” (1957), and “Lawrence of Arabia” (1962). Guinness was widely regarded as one of the greatest actors of his generation, and he was awarded a knighthood in 1959 for his services to the arts.
