Louis Gossett Jr. is an American actor. He is best known for his Academy Award-winning performance as Gunnery Sergeant Emil Foley in the 1982 film “An Officer and a Gentleman”. Gossett has had a long and varied career in the entertainment industry, appearing in numerous films, television shows, and stage productions. He is also well known for his role as Fiddler in the 1977 miniseries “Roots”, which was based on Alex Haley’s novel of the same name. Gossett has been recognized with several awards and honors throughout his career, including an Emmy Award and a Golden Globe Award.
