Takashi Shimura was a Japanese actor who appeared in over 200 films and television programs between 1936 and 1981. He was a prominent member of the acting troupe of the Shochiku film studio, and was best known for his roles in many of director Akira Kurosawa’s films, including Seven Samurai and Rashomon. Shimura was widely regarded as one of Japan’s greatest actors, and his contributions to the development of Japanese cinema earned him numerous awards and recognition throughout his career.
